By Airplane: The Leipzig/Halle airport (LEJ) is well served by Lufthansa, which provides service to other big international airports in Germany; best connections are via Frankfurt (FRA) and Munich (MUC). Flights to LEJ from FRA and MUC take about an hour.
To get from Halle-Leipzig airport (LEJ) to the Leipzig city centre, you have two options:
Option 1: Taxi Taxis are usually available from curbside just outside the arrival hall. A taxi ride to the city centre venue takes about 30 minutes and costs about 30 EUR.
Option 2: Train The Halle/Leipzig airport has a railway station (at the opposite end of the long building). Trains to the central station in Leipzig run about every 30 minutes; the trip takes about 10 minutes and costs about 5 EUR. Note 1: Be sure to buy your ticket IN ADVANCE at the ticket machine. No tickets are available on the train! You may be fined if you get on the train without a valid ticket. Note 2: Using the ticket machine may be complicated and time-consuming.
By Train: The central station in Leipzig is part of the ICE (high-speed train) rail network. A trip from Berlin to Leipzig takes only about an hour. Most of the hotels we recommend are within walking distance of the central station. Walking to the venue takes about 10-15 minutes, a taxi ride about 5 minutes, and the fare is about 5 EUR.
By car: The drive from the autobahn exit to the LICTRA venue takes about 30 minutes. The venue is located in the city centre, next to Augustusplatz and city tower. Some of the recommended hotels have their own car parks. A large but expensive two-level underground carpark is located at the venue under the Augustusplatz. We recommend Parkhaus West (not East!) next to the main station; it offers ample parking space on 10 levels, and parking fee for 24 hours is only 5 EUR. |
